Claire's Story

Claire's Story

Claire Marie Wagonhurst was a sparkling 17 year old from Maryland who lost a long and courageous battle with adolescent melanoma. I first learned of Claire when I met her mother Marianne, a news anchor, while shooting a TV spot in Baltimore. When Marianne told me about her daughter’s illness and her dream of being in the fashion industry, we arranged for her to come up to New York to shadow me for a day. In that small window I discovered what a bright and beautiful young lady she was, inside and out.

In the days following her passing, girls at schools throughout the Baltimore area cut their hair to donate to cancer in the “Hair for Claire” campaign. At last count, there was at least enough hair cut to scale a 29-story building.

To honor Claire and her brief but memorable time with us at Danielle Nicole, we named our favorite group from Pre Fall after her (which would go on to become an editorial favorite and the best seller of the season). A percentage of sales from the Claire collection will be going to the Claire Marie Foundation.
